The promotion of fear and political ideals in the US is a direct result in the rise of gun sales and an increased membership of hate groups since the election of President Obama.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations there are over 350,000,000 guns in America. That would be 1 weapon for every man woman and child with 50,000,000 million left over. The most current National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associate found that only 2% of the American population hunt.
The month of December 2008 US gun owners purchased over 1,529,635,000 rounds of ammunition. Those numbers have been consistent until recently. The demand for ammunition is greater than the current production rates. According to many gun store owners most of the ammunition for assault weapons and hand guns are hard to find or keep in stock due to consumer demand.
Many gun owners fear that the current Obama administration will re instate the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. The Federal Assault Weapons Ban prohibited the sale of ammunition clips that hold more than 10 rounds and also banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns, including AK-47s, Barrett .50-caliber rifle, the Colt AR-15 and various .223-caliber assault rifles.
Another alarming fact is legal gun sales in America, for the first 3 months in 2009 was over 18 million fire arms sold to the public. The amount of guns sold could easily outfit both the Chinese and Indian Army. Both the Chinese and India’s army are listed as two of the worlds largest standing armies . During the first three months of this year there were 3.7 million background checks of US citizens wanting to purchase firearms . During a firearms back ground check a buyer is allowed to purchase up to 5 guns per application. The annual averages of firearm back ground check in the US had been about 8.4 million.
The facts seem to indicate that the current global financial crisis, political climate in the United States is fueling Klan membership for the first time in decades. The Department of Homeland Security reports that US military veterans could become targets of recruitment by homegrown terrorist organizations and hate groups. Since the election of President Obama, Klan membership has increased by 600 to 700%. Also since the 2008 Presidential election, gun sales are surpassing even the days after the 9/11 terror attacks, with many buyers saying they are preparing to protect themselves in the event of a race war.
